The National Weather Service Chicago office has now confirmed at least five tornadoes in severe storms that occurred Monday July 27, 2026, including an EF1 that impacted Lynwood and Lansing in northeast Illinois before crossing the state line and entering Munster in northwest Indiana. The map shows the tornado touching down just east of Illinois Route 394 near Glenwood-Lansing Road, and traveling east-northeast before lifting near Harrison Avenue just south of Ridge Road in Munster.
Also in northeast Illinois, the National Weather Service at their website said an EF1 tornado from Country Club Hills to Glenwood impacted portions of Hazel Crest, Markham, Harvey, East Hazel Crest, and Homewood. The weather service also reports widespread straight-line wind damage with some of the hardest hit areas in southern Cook and eastern Will counties, including Chicago Heights, Sauk Village, Steger, Crete, Monee, and Beecher, with wind gusts of over 80 to 90 miles per hour during severe weather Monday. Crews continue assessing damage, photos, videos, and satellite data.
