In Porter County, the Liberty Township Volunteer Fire Department is highlighting a national effort to recruit the next generation of volunteer firefighters. The campaign, called “A Hustle Worth Having”, was launched by the International Association of Fire Chiefs showcasing how volunteering as a firefighter is a fulfilling side hustle that gives back. Liberty Fire says volunteer firefighters are essential to communities across the country, and as call volumes continue to rise nationwide the need for volunteers has never been greater. Liberty Fire serves Liberty and Jackson townships and its response area covers ZIP codes for Chesterton, Valparaiso, and Westville. Liberty Township Volunteer Fire invites the public to view the recruitment campaign video on its website and consider joining the department. No prior experience is necessary, and training is provided. “Volunteer firefighters are the backbone of our department”, said Chief Brian Duncan.
