In Tippecanoe County, the University of Saint Francis will hold a grand opening of its Lafayette, Indiana, site Tuesday, May 12, 2026. Saint Francis began serving Lafayette students this spring. Franciscan Health donated the former Bill Long Medical Building to the university, and an anonymous donor contributed $3.5 million for program expansion in Lafayette, a news release said. The city of Lafayette was the birthplace of the university in 1890 and served students until the Sisters of St. Francis of Perpetual Adoration—the university’s sponsor—established the Fort Wayne campus in 1944. In addition to its traditional programs, Saint Francis delivers workforce development healthcare programs in Fort Wayne, Crown Point, Gas City, Indianapolis, Lafayette and online.
