Northwest Indiana communities in the Lake Michigan watershed can apply to receive free native trees. The Northwestern Indiana Regional Planning Commission (NIRPC) is accepting applications for the Spring 2022 planting season through the CommuniTree Community Tree Grant Program. In most cases, trees must be planted in public spaces such as parks, schools, churches, and along public roadway easements within northwest Indiana’s Lake Michigan Watershed. The initiative is to plant 10-thousand new trees by the end of 2022. Applications for the spring planting season are due March 11, 2022. Here is a link for more information.
